NSA-endorsed hardware backdoor (IRONCHEF) for HP 380DL G5s

Nothing special to read, no?

They implant a piece of hardware in the server that sends RF signals.

If you let someone have physical access to your server....

Check your server inside if you find any of these devices if you are paranoid or consider yourself a target for international spying agencies:

Pictures included.

Anything in IML? Check from ILO.

Hi,

You are correct. This is not the 60daytrial version but a fully featured1TB version of the VSA...

It is available since some time when you buy select Gen8 Proliant servers. On the box of the server is a yellow sticker with more details. Actually it is based on the serial number of the server so just register the server and enjoy!

Know that there are some 'limitations' on this VSA freeversion. No time limits whatsoever but you can have a maximum of 3 VSA's in a cluster.

Find all information also in my blog post on this: http://www.bitcon.be/?p=2259

Re: Proliant ML350 G5 - SSD upgrade - only SATA2?

Yes, you can use 2 SSD 120Go on E200i for the system.

I already made that on 3 ML350 G5 with E200i.

You must put the 2 SSD, create a Raid1 Array, Clone the SAS disk to SATA disk, and you can just remove (offline) the 2 SAS disk for looking if the system boot normaly. After, you remove the 2 sas disk from the Array configuration.

Then, if you would, you can, offline, remove the 2 ssd and put it back in place of the sas drives. (only if you had removed the sas drives from the controller configuration).

SSD tested : Intel 520 and intel 530.

For the pure performances, you gain in latency - reactivity and power consumption.

Hi,

I wanted to know if it is possible to install a NVIDIA or ATI GPU inside a DL380 Gen8 Server (HP DL380p Gen8 8-SFF CTO)

And if it exist a list of compatible GPu's

I have found some information in pdfs on hp website, but in one pdf was told it was not possible, in the other one that was possible only with NVIDIA Quadro4000&6000 and in another one that was possible with Nvidia GRID K1.

Thank you for help.

Add me to the list, same problem here with one of two DL560 G8's purchased spring 2013.  One has been fine, the other has been resetting itself with the message:

"System Power Fault Detected. System Has Enabled Power Protection and Disabled Power Supplies"

Started in June of 2013, and we had the system board replaced then, as well as clearing the IML log and updating the BIOS.  Seemed fine up until December 27, when it happened again, and now again today.  Just opened a case (again), we'll see how that goes.

Nevermind, got it sorted. TFTP did the trick... still, these servers and all the different firmware releases and installation processes really suck big time! HP is not even able to provide a rompaq.exe version that is capable of extracting firmware images under x64 windows systems.... still 16 bit! LOL.... the 80s are over!!!!

The 100 series never really was proliant hardware including tools (no ILO, no RBSU, etc...), good to see it replaced by 300e series (with ILO, etc).

Rack depth needed for an ML350e G8 ?

$

Hi,

I'm trying to find out the minimum distance (depth) between the front and rear posts of a cabinet, in order to rackmount an ML350e G8.  I know the server is 740mm deep (29 1/8") and that the part code for the rail kit is 667272-001, but I don't know what the mount depth is for the rail kit.  I've spent the whole evening Googling and scouring HP's site to no avail.

Can anyone help me please ?

Thanks !

Kev. UK.

What is the FW version of your SA controller?

Besides opening the hood and checking if the NSA has implanted a piece of hardware into your server that sends RF signals, you can also protect your BIOS by using the DL380 G5 ROM dated 2011.05.02.  This ROM enhances the security against modifications and won't allow the flash of a "fake" ROM on that system.
