Recommendations:

1. Power down the server and reseat all removable components and ensure everything is securely seated.
2. Refer the user guide and use the system maintenance switch to clear the NVRAM.
Set the system maintenance switch 6 to on position.
Power on the server and wait for indication on screen that switch is in on position.
Power down the server and set the system maintenance switch 6 to off position.
3. Power on the server again and check status.
If step 2 was not successful or if you continue to receive errors/ beeps then refer the troubleshooting guide.
4. Do also check for bent pins, damaged cables etc on attached peripherals.

Greetings.

It is not recommended to use a hard drive from another server which is part of an Array on the other server. Before replacing such foriegn drive, the Meta Data on that particular drive needs to be Erased.

While replacing a failed drive, make sure the replacement drive is same as the failed drive. Replacing with different size, part number or any other specification, will cause issues in the performance.

To Erase the Meta Data on the Hard Drive, please refer to the commands from the link shared below.

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03493210

You can also use the commands to verify the drive status or to confirm if the drive is failed or OK

Thank you

Meaning of this HP BL460c Gen9 Specification?

Hello All, My client order us a HP BL460c Gen9 server with this specification and we could not understand what they meant. Can anyone explain to us: 1. HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560M Adapters 2. 10Gb 536FLB FlexFabric Adapter 2 Ports per controller 3. 2 x 10GbE, FlexFabric 10 GB, FlexFabric 10/20 GB What is the difference among these three specs? Are all of them integrated in the BL460 Gen9 servers by default or are they optional and should be bought separately? If you can please try to provide us the part number for each component. Thanks in advance,

Gen10 Network and load withot VM activities

Hello,

With our first DL380 gen10, we indentifed a network load without any Proc activities. That generates latency on Network Storage.

We're using Giga network switch, Hirschmann. I've added a screen shot of network adapter we used.

If somebody knows why and if there some update or configuration to do ?

Thanks for your help

Apparently Gen10 servers still have this annoying habit that they only boot from DVD or USB drive if you boot up to OneTimeBoot menu and only then place medium in drive.
Then the DVD was bootable.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us.

I would like to know what the intelligent provisioning (IP) is. If you are using intelligent provisioning 3.0. I would like to request you update IP from 3.0 to 3.10 or 3.20.

Please let us know for further assistance.

Regards,

I managed it now to boot an UEFI bootable USB stick (ML350 Gen10). But legacy boot is not working. I tried different working USB sticks.... I see them blinking very shortly and then the server jumps to the hard disk.

I made this many times on Gen9 servers, "one time legacy boot", automatic reset, done. But not on the Gen10.

Is it possible this is because all external USB connectors are USB3? maybe I should try one of the internal USB's.

If you look into the blue connector, you will find additional contacts that only make sense if you use a special power cable and a special PDU. These are communication lines for power monitoring. If you use standard power cables, these contacts do nothing. It will not make any difference for you.

From my own experience it is not a problem to take a replacement disk from another server as long as you insert it while the system is running. The disk will be overwritten with the existing configuration and starts rebuilding the RAID1.

The problem is that when you insert a used drive while the server is powered off, the Smart Array controller will find two different configurations on the two disks and might get confused which one to take. Sometimes it even mixes the two configs, resulting in some strange problems. But you should change disks on a running system only... anyway.

About the error LED on the Disk.... I have seen many disks with predictive failures and no yellow LED. You only see it in the Storage Administrator. I assume this has to do with firmware of the disk itself. Sometimes it takes a long time until the LED goes yellow. Sometimes it needs a reboot and sometimes it does not go on at all.

Are you sure you got the right RAMs? You wrote ECC RAM.... You need PC2-5300F (fully buffered) in pairs. You first install Dimm 1A and Dimm 3A (first pair A then B,C,D). The names are written on the mainboard.

Are you sure the power outlet has power?

For ML350 G6 and G7 it is likely a dead power supply backplane.

I would start with a known to work image - a current SPP.

The SPP works in legacy and UEFI mode.

Other images may fail for various reasons, for example secure boot enabled etc ...
