ML10 Gen9 CPU upgrade

Hiya,

Im looking to see if the cpu in this server can be upgraded, I don't need HPe to support it (its out of warranty anyways). Socket is 1151, currently its running a E3-1225v5. I was hoping to I could drop a E-21xx in there, six-core.

Is there any info on this or maybe someone has experience?

Thanks!

I think this slot is for the SAS B320I CTRL (685185-001) only.

I have already a B320 on my riser, and I can't find anything suitable for this port

Hi,

E3-1225v5 appears to be only supported option from E3-1200v5 processor family based on quickspecs

https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04922941

Seems like it is "Intel 100 series chipset(Skylake)" limitation [Intel processors which uses LGA 1151 revision 1 socket]

Which support max 4 cores.

LGA 1151 rev 2
While Coffee Lake shares the same socket as Skylake and Kaby Lake, this revision of LGA 1151 is electrically incompatible with 100 and 200 series CPUs.
The 300 Series chipsets were introduced along with Coffee Lake processors, which use the LGA 1151 socket as well.

so ,  "E-21xx , six-core" will not be supported on LGA 1151 revision 1 but may work on Coffee Lake i.e on 300 Series chipset.

878783-B21 + E208i-A SR on DL380 Gen10

Hi to all

I need configure 2 nodes DL380Gen10 P24844-B21 with 24Hdd and 824i-P as Virtual San.

I need also install vMware on boot disck using 878783-B21 UNIVERSAL SATA HH M.2 KIT . The problem is that this controller don't permit boot in mirroring with vMware.

Can I solve this problem mounting a 208i-a SR as indipendent controller and connectoing Universal Sata on this one?

Thanks

Max Tosi (Brevi S.p.A.)

No, it doesn't have a cache module. I mean this one:

After a similar issue and similar troubleshooting, I disconnected the SID flat cable and powered on.  The server powered on normally.

Smart Storage Battery

I have a Proliant DL360 Gen9, last week I had a failed message on the Smart Storage Battery Status, it read Degraded. Search online and came to the conclusion that the Smart Storage Battery needs replacement. I order a new one, and installed it. But the error message still display Degraded, and now the status under Storage says Degraded/Cache Module Status, so now I have 2 errors. Current firmware version for the Smart Storage Battery: V1.1

DL380 Gen 10 M2 Card Connectivity

I just received 4 new Proliant DL380 Gen 10 Servers (VSAN ready nodes) to run VSAN for Horizon environment, but I have questions about the 2 M2 cards connectivity.  Ours came attached to the Smart Array S100i SR Gen 10, which is not supported under ESXi for RAID 1.  We will only be using the cards for booting to ESXi and for logs.  Could the M2 cards be connected to the  Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen 10 Storage Controller or SAS bus extender?

The M2 Drive part # is P19888-b21 on Purchase Order.  ILO shows model VR000240GXBBL  I don't see the drive in the front of the server, ILO shows their location at Port 6 | Bay 13 and Port 6 | Bay 14.  Where is that?  In the ILO it shows up connected to the Lewisburg SATA AHCI Controller.

Is there a cable I need to connect the drives to P816i-a SR Gen 10 controller or would existing cabling work?

Hi

You can create Raid (1) with M.2 drives using software raid only [in this case/server its S100i(embedded software raid controller)],

or you can use it in AHCI mode (Lewisburg SATA AHCI Controller) without software raid/raid mode:

M.2 drives will be directly presented to OS.

You can not connect M.2 drives to any other controllers.

M.2 drive slot are embedded on Primary riser board(There is a special riser option for it)

See Riser board pic below:

M.2 riser board 1.pngM.2 riser board 2.png

few references:

RAID mode of Intel Corporation Lewisburg SATA AHCI Controller is not supported in ESXi 6.5 (52047)

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/52047#:~:text=VMware%20does%20not%20support%20the,AHCI%20in%20the%20system%20BIOS.

So,  let embedded controller be in AHCI mode and then install VMware OS to one of the M.2 drive (ESXi 6.5 and above support AHCI mode).

Hi

Ensure that battery is connected/seated properly.

Battery may not have enough charge, check the battery and cache status in ILO and also in SSA.

Update ILO  and controller firmware to latest.

Share ADU log to check the status.

Hi

24Hdd with P824i-P is fine, but

M.2 SATA drives are managed through Software raid controllers only(S100i) for Raid mode or SATA AHCI mode.(non raid/JBOD)

So connecting M.2 SATA with E208i-a may not work i.e Raid mode :Raid1, however since controller will be in Mixed mode it may allow to install OS in HBA mode :without raid/Jbod)

I did not see any document which indicate E208i support M.2 SATA drives so cant confirm whether it will allow you to create Raid 1.

I Suspect the issue with Directory Server & Certificate Authority .

Verifying an LDAP connection using below steps.

1. Start the Active Directory Administration Tool (Ldp.exe).
2. On the Connection menu, click Connect.
3. Type the name of the domain controller to which you want to connect.
a. You must use a proper DNS name for the SSL test to work.
4. Type 636 as the port number and check the SSL box
5. Click OK.

Re: DL380 Gen 10 M2 Card Connectivity

,

The picture helped some, but I would have liked to see the entire card with m2 drives populated(front and back). looking to see if there are any cable connectors on it.

How is the card or the drive connected to S100? Is the S100 on the card or is it that on the motherboard?

I was hopeful to see if that card has sata cable to the S100, where I could get a min sas to breakout SATA cables to connect it to P816i-a similarly to someone else posted in the communities.

Thanks,
Kevin

DL380 GEN10 8SFF Chassis + HPE ML350 Gen10 8SFF Hot Plug Drive Backplane Cage Kit

Hi, we have HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Server with one box and P408i-a. We also bought the HPE ML350 Gen10 8SFF Hot Plug Drive Backplane Cage Kit. On the controller, two ports are occupied from the first box, how to connect the second? And yet, no where in the documentation did I find there should have been a cable in the kit? There was only a power cable.
Thank you in advance!
