Re: PowerShell HP BIOS Cmdlets failed to Connect-HPBIOS

Alain,

I too had this issue and upon running the New-HPBIOSCustomWinPEImage script, it failed with out much explanation.  The error I got stated:

StatusType: Error

StatusMessage: Failed to create WINPE image.

I got this error whether I selected USB_DRIVE or ISO_FILE.   -Log didn't work at all, and FL didn't revela anything either.  Help files and documentation are moot on this.  There is a batch file located in the HPBIOS directory, called New-HPBIOSCustomWinPEImage.bat which creates a series of folders on the system disk.  I have no idea what these do and can't find any documention nor help from google.

Running Windows 7 /64 on an HP 9470 with quad core i5 and 16 gb Corsair RAM.  ADK 8.3, Powershell 4.0, .NET 4.5.

P410i License Key Expiration Date

I have an old  DL370 G6 that shipped with a Smart Arrary P410i controller.  This controller also came with a RAID 6 license key.

The server is out of warranty, with no active Care Packs, however, the hardware is still quite servicable.  Is there a way to determine the expiration date of the installed license key?

Thank you.

Hi,

Here is the power supply led status:

Green = Normal
Off = One or more of the following conditions exists:
  • AC power unavailable

  • Power supply failed

  • Power supply in standby mode

  • Power supply exceeded current limit

Most likely the PSU is faulty or in rare cases, the power supply connector inside the server where it gets connected to the system board is faulty.

Thank You!

I downloaded the latest SPP for Proliant servers, to burn a DVD to boot from.

On the download page, it says, “The SPP may not fit on standard DVD media. See the HP Service Pack for ProLiant Release Notes for more information.”

So I go to the Release Notes for Proliant to see how to address this problem.

In the Release Notes for Proliant document, it states, “The SPP may not fit on standard DVD media. See the HP Service Pack for ProLiant Release Notes for more information.”

As you can see, it is a vicious circle that never ends. There is nothing in the Release Notes that addresses it.

I can’t use the USB Key Utility, because you have to have the DVD burned before you can transfer it to the USB key.  The utility won’t work from an .iso image.

When I try to burn the DVD (4.7GB DVD-R), it says the image is too large for the DVD. The .iso is 4.91GB.

I am trying to create a bootable DVD or USB key that I can boot the bare-metal server from.

Thank you.

Yep, I forgot about basic diagnostics. I swapped that new power supply with a working one in another server and the new power supply is bad.

Thanks for the Gibbs smack,

Howdy,

Did you ever get a reply back or locate it?  I am assuming it's under "Max Ethernet Frame Size"?  I just got this card and have been exploring where to change this...

It is possible to mound the ISO using the Virtual Drive option ?  I never burn DVD with iLO (no from iLo version 2).

DL360: freeze after changing a kernel option in the Grub boot menu

$

Hi,

Here is the model of my server: HP Proliant DL360 Gen9. The bios-UEFI firmware is updated (05.06.2015). I have kept the UEFI enabled but I have this:

Server Security => Secure Boot Settings:

Current Secure Boot State => Disabled
      Secure Boot Enforcement   => Disabled

Then, the technical support tells me to install this image of Ubuntu Trusty. Indeed I have absolutely no problem with the installation. I can reboot the server, I have a network UP, in brief all is OK.

But, one day I wanted to make some IO benchs. In this case, I'm used to limit the RAM of the server before doing the bench. So I reboot the server and, during the Grub menu, I type "e" to edit the default grub menu and just append a this kernel boot option "mem=512m". After that, I type F10 to boot the server with my modified Grub menu. And after that, total freeze of the server. I have a black screen, with no message. The linux kernel is not loaded, the server is blocked before to load the kernel. Even with "Ctrl+Alt+Suppr", impossible to reboot the server. I have to make a hard resert to reboot the server.

In fact, if want to change any option of the kernel in Grub, I have this total freeze. For instance I have tried too "ipv6.disable=1", I have exactly the same problem. I have tried too to change the boot option with the "/etc/default/grub" file (and after I run "update-grub"). I have exactly the same problem (except that, in this case, the default grub menu is definitely changed and I can't reboot the server at all).

I have contacted the technical about this problem and this answer was : "I have analyzed the Active Health system of your server, I'm sure that the harware is OK. Here, the problem concerns the OS. I prefer that you contact the Ubuntu support".

Personally, I have big doubts concerning this conclusion. Bugs about the bios-UEFI already exist (for instance this nice bug) and I don't understand why we can be sure that my problem is not a bug of the bios-UEFI too?

Has someone already noticed this kind of problem on this server?
Do you have suggestions concerning my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

François Lafont

PS: indeed, if I set the bios to "bios legacy" (ie I disable UEFI) and if I make a install in this condition, I have no problem and I don't have this freeze. But I would like to understand (and solve) the problem above with bios-UEFI. I'm a little surprised by the answer of the technical support. But I'm maybe wrong...

PS2: I have already appended the kernel option "mem=512m" in the default grub menu a ton of times without any problem and of course I do no syntax error during this step. ;)

The problem with the unit was that someone switched the CPUs out. It had a Dual Core, 2.0Ghz Xeon in socket two and a Quad Core, 2.0Ghz Xeon in socket 1... I order a new CPU and I am waiting for it to show up. The server boots now with one CPU installed.

I can't recall the last time I burned an ISO image to DVD medai. If I don't mount the image over iLO virtual media or set  the iimage up for PXE boot I will use a USB key.

For Windows I use the free virtual CD tool from Magic ISO that allows you to mount ISO images. http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-magicdisc-overview.htm

There are other tools out there but this one has always worked well for me

ML350 G5 - Windows Doesn't Detect HDDs

I just got this server, fired it up and no HDDs detected.

I checked and there are two HDDs. I slapped Windows 7 CD in and rebooted.

As Windows Installer loaded, it stated that no hdds could be found and instalation was aborted.

I tired 3 times, switched maintenance switch number 6 on, loaded defaults in BiOS, and still nothing.

I also switched the HDDs out for working drives from another ML350.  Still same error...

Any ideas?

BAC_EBP   thanks so much. the only item I was missing was the domain name under the Dedicated network port.  Addiing the domain in the location you pointed out immediately resolved my iLO alert email issue.

(also enabling the IP address of the iLO to send anonymously through Exchange by updating the anonymous receive connector setting, was required, as another poster mentioned.)

HP Proliant ML350 G6 / Smart Array P410i RAID Failure - Advice Required

$

Hello,

Overnight we have had two drive issues in our RAID 5 array (5 member disks).  One disk has failed and another disk is reporting a Predictive Failure.

I have ordered replacement disks, but I am not too sure which one I should replace first.  My initial thoughts are to replace the failed drive but from research performed it appears that a Predictive Failure could prevent a RAID rebuild operation.

Does anybody know what the correct process is for this scenario?

Same problem here with rhel 7.1:

1) modify the option in grub bootloader, adding, say: "mem=256M" to the linuxefi row

2) ctrl+e in order to apply and boot

then bang: the server hangs. A hard reset is mandatory.

Yes, It is pretty rediculous that HP now feels the need to charge for the PSP.  Went to download it today and found that it requires active warranty or agreement.  I'm pretty disappointed that HP has chosen this direction.  This should be a part of basic support.

HP ProLiant DL360 G6, Pci-e card recommendations

Product Name: HP ProLiant DL360 G6

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, I like try this kind hp server (with WIN7) for music production and need some Pci-e cards. Need FireWire (half slot Pci-e) and connection for 2 monitor into machine... maybe better graphic card (full size Pci-e) with digital out (Dvi or something like that). I'm not sure that can I get 2 monitor to this DL360 G6 without better graphic card?

Okay, can I buy whatever FireWire card or do I need some HP stuff, any ideas? FireWire 400 is ok, enough to my project :)

And which kind Pci-e- graphic card shall work in this machine? I don't need much power, only 2 monitor with 1920 x 1080 res.
