What you noticed helps you, using a proper terminology in describing an issue you're experiencing helps other Community members to better understand what's going on on a system they don't have under their eyes...

The installation procedure did not complete successfully.  An error occurred during the setup process.

You may look at the setup log file for more details if desired.

Additional Information:
 Flash failed
A fatal error occurred. See engineering log for details.

Press the 'Close' button to exit Setup.

Tried to attach the latest log here, but it's not allowed. At least, inside the log there is a line that says:

This component cannot be installed with the Windows HPCISSS3.sys driver version 100.18.2.64.  Please update the HPCISSS3.sys driver and restart the operating system before installing this component

I have got no idea what I should install to get the latest HPCISSS3.sys driver. All the latest stuff in the software and driver list for the server is installed.

So...in the Error Log message the solution was already proposed (see recommandation about updating HPCISSS3.sys driver's version)...and, it the P440 Firmware update application found that...it means that the SATA/SAS Smart Array driver, as per 5.52(B) Firmware release note, wasn't yet updated as requested (so not "latest stuff", at least for this particular software driver component).

One thing I always do is carefully read Release Notes especially when Server needs to have updated SystemROM and/or Smart Array Controller Firmwares...if there is a specific recommandation (as example: update the Software Driver first, perform the operation Offline or do a proper controlled OS reboot...) is better to know it first instead to hit an issue.

Hi Torsten,

A bit embarrasing, I overlooked that one.

I revisited the updates and installed SPP2017.04. The server is now completely current.

Thanks to everybody pointing me in the right direction.

Windows 2016 Smart Array P440 controller and failed IOCTL errors in StorDiag event log

Hi folks,

New ProLiant DL180 Gen9 server, Smart Array P440 controller, OS Windows 2016 Standard, all drivers and firmware completely up to date through SPP2017.04.

Under the StorDiag folder and in the log Microsoft-Storage-ClassPnP/Operational, the following error event is logged about 600 times/hour:

"Completing a failed IOCTL request." Event ID=504

The XML is

<quote>

-<System>
 <ProviderName="Microsoft-Windows-StorDiag" Guid="{F5D05B38-80A6-4653-825D-C414E4AB3C68}" />

 <Data Name="IoctlControlCode">0x74080</Data>
 </EventData>
 </Event>

Is this a serious error, or only informative? When there are problems with IOCTLs, it use to indicate hardware problems, and I don't want to deploy something I must throw out next week.

Any suggestions welcome.

Best regards,

Pete

Good day, I tried in any way to configure the controller but I can't get around it and I need some help. I recieved an old HP ProLiant ML330 G3 with an ASC-29160i SCSI controller card and 2 SCSI HDD. When I boot up the server, it beeps twice and writes on screen "162 - System Options Not Set". I tried everything on the internet without success. Can you guide me somehow? Thank you very much.

Because of the age of the server the CMOS battery may be empty, so the BIOS settings will no longer be stored, Check and replace the battery and reset the BIOS to defaults.

Finally is there a solutionto fix this or force SSA use IE8 or Chrome?

Installing Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 2008 R2 is a mess... earlier versions unavailable... Windows 2008 R2 have IE8 by default... why making things unnecessarely complicated?

Smart Array Ready for Recovery - but recovery not starting

$

I have a RAID 1 drive which had a disk failure. I replaced the drive and it now says "Ready for Recovery" but after a couple of weeks it still says ready for recovery and there's no sign of it starting recovery. The server is operating normally but I presume this disk is currently unprotected. The array is the main C: drive with Windows on it so won't have many quiet periods.

Could someone advise on how to move this forward,

Thanks

You provided no info about what HP/HPE ProLiant Server and what HP/HPE Smart Array Controller are you dealing with...so what Server? what Smart Array Controller? what's about checking your (Physical/Logical) RAID 1 Array status by using the HPE Smart Storage Administrator (known as HPE SSA) application directly from withing your Windows OS? <-- supposing you already installed HPE SSA application on your Windows OS.

Some entry class disk controllers need a reboot after replacing a disk. During boot you need to answer the question about how to proceed (press F1 or F2).

You should log on to ILO and check the ILO and IML log for related entries.
