Anyone here?

Proliant DL380 Gen9
Hello was hoping for some assistance with upgrading the Firmware and Bios for a Proliant DL380 Gen9 and take it to a later version of esxi. I intend to use a USB to perform the update.
iLo is not available.
I have firmware version 2.5 as an .rpm file, and two zipped folders for esxi; One is a "util-bundle" and the other is a "mgmt-bundle".
I'm asking assistance with the steps to perform the upgrade. If you have any documentation that would be helpful.
What is the difference between the utl-bundle and mgmt-bundle? Do both need to be put on one USB? Zipped folders, or extracted? Step upgrade the esxi?
Is only the firmware.rpm file used to create a bootable usb?
Thank you
Re: DL585 G7 HBA compatibility
OK. Thanks for the input
Re: Proliant DL380 Gen9
Best way to update all the firmware:
Get the current SPP2018.03 from http://spp.hpe.com/custom and use the USBKey tool (inside the ISO) to create the USB.
Boot from USB, select interactive and update all the firmware.
Re: Uncorrectable PCI Express Error
We've just had exactly the same issue - ML350p G8 upgraded to Server 2016 and after running the SPP the performance was terrible / ILO RC causing blue screen instantly. At one point the IML advised to replace the processor!
So far removing the Matrox graphics driver has massively boosted performance and stopped the blue screens.
All working perfectly now with the basic graphics driver that came with 2016.
Re: HP DL380p Gen8 SERVER REBOOTED AUTOMATICALLY
I am unable to see the HPE partnumber of the Super-Cap. Would like a Super-Cap for
ProLiant DL360p Gen8
with
HP Smart Array P420i Controller
I am wondering if one would let me know the original HP partnumber of needed Super-Cap (for this Server with this controller) to replace it asap by giving this partnumber to our department boss for purchasing (boss) :-)

Re: DL 380 G9 High fan speed
I've revert all firmwares on the system to whatever is provided by SPP 2017.4. Everything appears to have calmed down now. I will have to wait and see if it stays that way.
But we lost *4* hard drives in 2 days because of this.
And to answer your questions, everything had been reset to defaults, so the power had been configured for "Balanced". Nothing had changed environment-wise, and the fans would kick in almost immediately after boot, before the primary OS had even started.
I didn't check what iLO was reporting before I reverted everything, but at this point all sensors are nominal.
I have to say I am thoroughly disgusted with HP. Between poor quality VMWare drivers that purple screen the entire host, to this nonsense, I can only assume that they're using a room full of brain damaged monkeys to write their code.
I very much regret buying HP.
Re: hp proliant dl380p cannot detect storage controllers
Hello,
You need to put more details, what gen is that and is it embedded controller?

Re: P420i - Parity initialization failed
Hello,
Best option is to pull cache memory and run without it. I know sometimes init failure is just dodgy cache memory.

Re: DL 380 G9 High fan speed
The fans have kicked on high again. iLO shows them running at 73%.
All temperatures are reported within good range.
Of the highest values I'm seeing:
08-HD Max is at 47C
02-CPU 1 is at 40C
19-PS 1 Internal is at 40C
20-PS 2 Internal is at 40C
27-HD Controller is at 48C
29-LOM is at 40C
All other sensors are in the low 20s or less. Everything is well below the "Caution" limit.
Room temperature is only 18C.
The only errors in the iLO event log is that it can't reach the NTP server.
These values don't seem generally that high to me.
Thoughts?

Re: DL 380 G9 High fan speed
I just checked the ILM and it gave me something possibly actionable. It thought that one of the new hard drives was overheating. So I spread them out a bit, and did a full power cycling (removing the power cords and waiting a bit) and now it seems to be stable again.
Not sure which part of all my futzing did the trick, but so far the server is stable again. For reference, here is what I'm at:
HPE Smart Storage Battery 1 Firmware 1.0 Embedded iLO 2.50 Sep 23 2016 System Board Intelligent Platform Abstraction Data 24.02 System Board Intelligent Provisioning 2.01.29 System Board Power Management Controller Firmware 1.0.9 System Board Power Management Controller FW Bootloader 1.0 System Board Redundant System ROM P89 v2.56 (01/22/2018) System Board SAS Programmable Logic Device Version 0x02 System Board Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware 3.0.6.267.1 System Board Smart Array P440ar Controller 5.04 Embedded System Programmable Logic Device Version 0x30 System Board System ROM P89 v2.40 (02/17/2017) System Board
All was provided by SPP 2017.04. At this point I won't even consider upgrading to anything newer cause I'm afraid everything will melt down again.
Re: ML310e Gen8 V2 with Server 2016 Hyper-V

FAN & ILO4 issue: DL380p Gen8 with Dual Xeon 2660 v2
I'm having a problem with one of my Proliant DL380p's
The ILO4 sometimes reports an ip address but all the time it says its not available and F8 gives up and moves on to the boot order. No response when trying to SSH on the ILO port.
I downloaded the HPE Smart update manager 7.6.2 and it updated all the other components but gave an error on ILO:
Online ROM Flash Engine: FLASH_ILO 4 1.17 (Sep 30 2015)
Error: Make sure hp Lights-Out driver is installed and loaded, also execute the utility as root
return code 7.
I then tried the IP recovery (842496_001_Intelligent_Provisioning_1.63-HPIP163.2016_0720.i192.227) however it said it was unable to communicate with the ILO and gave up.
I don't actually need ILO to work I just want to fix an issue I'm having with the fans, They ramp up to full speed at random intervals. My other proliants are all fine, I even have a DL360p with a broken ILO and those fans are steady.
I've tried restoring BIOS from backup, removing all components, it only has HP branded peripherals, removing all of those still does not fix the fan issue. I've also replaced all the fans.
Ambient temperature is 20c
Has anybody seen this behaviour out in the field? I'm sure the recommended fix for an enterprise environment would be a new system board however this is a home server so I'm wondering if there's any hack I could do to control the fan issue.
I'm running Ubuntu Server 16.04

Re: DL360 Gen10 PCIE Slot 3 not PCIE Compatible?
We have tested the same 4 types of PCIE cards in a DL380 Gen. 10. All cards that do not work in a PCIE slot 3 of a DL360 Gen. 10 work in any of the six DL380 PCIE slots. So only the PCIE slot 3 of DL360 Gen. 10 seems to be problematic.
It would not be a problem if quickspecs would mention in any way that the PCIE slot 3 of DL360 Gen. 10 has limited compatibility. However HPE states that PCIE slot 3 has the same PCIE 3.0 compatibility as the slots 1 and 2 with the only difference that it requires a second CPU which we have installed.
Re: DL360 Gen10 PCIE Slot 3 not PCIE Compatible?
You need to call support and open a case.
How to Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster with 4 nodes (four HPE ProLiant DL300er and one LUN / SAS)
My Boss got 4 HPE ProLiant DL300er Series (Generation 8) and one HPE Storage Enclosure 3000er Serie yet. Is it possible to connect all 4 Servers with additional HPE SmartArray 421 (or better HPE SmartArray 431) to this HPE 3700er to build a cluster with 4 nodes (all four ProLiants), or do we need to build it with the two HPE ProLiant 380p only and use the HPE ProLiant DL360e and HPE ProLiant 360p for something else (for the Active Directory for example)? I yet recommeded him to buy two SmartArray 421 (cheaper) for the both HPE ProLiant DL380p to use / to connect the HPE 3700 Enclosure for the needed LUN for the Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition for building a Failover-Cluster for Microsoft Hyper-V where further (virtual) Servers can run on and use the two other HPE ProLiant DL360p and 360e with Windows 2012 R2 Essentials for a PDC and BDC. for a Active Directory Domain,
Are there other recommondations, examples, best practices examples or official HPE advisory how to build the 4 node cluster my boss is preffering (instead this) ?!?
I am wondering if some HPE geeks oder HPE experts can reply because all the hardware has run out of official HPE support contract.
With best regards,
Dirk
