HPE Smart Array P440/4Gb controller in ML360 Gen9 with LFF SSD

I have been supplied 1 x HP Smart Array P440/4GB FBWC 12Gb 1-port Int SAS Controller (726821-B21) and 4 x HPE 800GB 12G SAS Mixed Use-1 SFF (2.5in) SC 3yr Wty Solid State Drive (846434-B21) buy our "reputable" provider. When installed the disks are still showing under the build in B140i Controller.

1 Do I need a cable to connect from the controller to the main board back plane/drive bay as one wasnt supplied.?

2 The P440/4G comes with the following. I can see where to connect it to the controller but no where else inside the DL360 Gen9. Do I need this cable or is this the cable I am looking but just cannot find the port to connect it to?

PCI to controller power cable (Short) - straight 3-pin (F) to straight 3-pin (F), 215 mm (8.5 in) long (792836-001)
PCI to controller power cable (Long) - straight 3-pin (F) to straight 3-pin (F), 400 mm (15.7 in) long (792837-001)

DL360P Gen8 P420i Question

Good evening:

I have a DL360P Gen8 on the way and it has a P420i RAID controller that I plan to use to implement RAID10 on the server.  (There are only 4 drive bays.)

I'm just wondering:  If I put in four 3TB drives and configure RAID 10 and want to add larger capacity drives down the line, would I be able to just remove a drive and insert the new drive and allow the array to rebuild?

I've never been on the user end of this particular hardware...usually I'm building the stuff.

Thank you!

Hi,

I installed the "HP Smart Update Manager (SUM)" and applied the patches using that tool.

It worked fine and I am also able to do remote inventories on the servers as well.

Thanks

Corrupt Cache P4500G2

I have 4 SANs and 2 of the 4 SANs are showing cahche status as corrupted.

This happened after they were shut down (properly, removed all connections, put in maintenance mode, shut down management group) and brought online again.

I read that a firmware upgrade could probably resolve the issue, however after downloading all of the upgrades, it will not apply them because devices are in a critical state (because the cache is corrupt)

How can I either bypass the check for critical errors when upgrading, or alternatively uncorrupt the cache?

Yes, it is right.

Also, please check usage when we run the SNMPWALK, it provides the usage as below:SNMPwalk.JPG

Hi There,

It seems like you will need to create a case with the HPE server support team in order to further proceed as the logs would be required for further analysis and Action Plan.

Please click on "Submit a case" and the concerned team will get back to you once the case is created : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/home

Re: How to Add Extra HDD to an Existing HP DL 380 G9 Server

Hello,

The Array can be expanded without disturbing the existing configuration. There are many pre requisites that need to be addressed before commencing the Array Expansion.

From the query, we understand that the Smart Array Controller has a Cache Module & ADG license.

The SmartCache feature need to be disabled to perform an Array expansion

You can increase the storage space on an array by adding physical drives. Any drive that you want to add must meet the following criteria:
• It must be an unassigned drive.
• It must be of the same type as existing drives in the array (for example, SATA or SAS).
• It must have a capacity no less than that of the smallest drive in the array.

IMPORTANT: An array expansion, logical drive extension, or logical drive migration takes about 15 minutes per gigabyte. While this process is occurring, no other expansion, extension, or migration can occur simultaneously on the same controller. Controllers that do not support a battery-backed write cache do not support this process.

Good morning, if you add a new HDD, I can restart the host despite the procedure to extend the logical volume has reached 7%? can I start working on old data without losing it and check that the VMWARE machine is still working? Unfortunately I can not find answers on the guides. Thanks for the clarifications

Hi!

So problem is that, my iLO of HP Proliant DL380G9 noticed that some problems with HDD

Status  Degraded (Predictive failure) Serial Number 03GHYAZC Model EG0600JEHMA Media Type HDD Capacity 600 GB Location Port 2I Box 3 Bay 7 Firmware Version HPD5 Drive Configuration Configured Encryption Status Not Encrypted

HDD MODEL that installed is EG0600JEHMA

i bought another driver HPE MODEL: EG000600JWJNP

I tried to compare them - it's look like everything is the same, only firmware is different HPD5 and HPD1

Can someone tell me can i make a replacement with new drive?

Thank you in advance!

Same Part#, same Product, regardless of Manufactor or any LED.

HPE take care about this.

Change it.

Looks like your new drive has the old style drive carrier (ore Gen8) and not the smart drive carrier.

Don't insert it, it may damage the slot.

I thought he meant only the LED from the drive itself.

HPE Proliant DL360 gen9 , not generating traps

Hello ,

I'm having an issue regarding SNMP trap generation in case of network cable disconnecting or network down testing for a bonded NIC (bond0) having two interfaces (eno1,eno2) , im not getting any traps to be generated while the bond is configured with bonding mode of (active/backup) mode-1 , when any interface is removed from the bond and tested the SNMP traps are properly generated.
