Re: Post-Production Service Pack for ProLiant 8.1 9-2018 full & custom bundle not completing dow

Hello All,

The issue is not with installing the Service Pack for Proliant software, but completing the file download from HPE on any web browser.  This only occurs for the "Post Production" tier Service Pack for ProLiant Gen8.1 for both the full SPP download (5.44GB) and any custom SPP download with/without options being checked off.  The download always stops around ~95% and all bytes stops transferring.  This download problem doesn't occur with any of the "Production" tier SPP whether it's the full ISO or a custom SPP.

DL360P Gen8 P420i Question

Good evening:

I have a DL360P Gen8 on the way and it has a P420i RAID controller that I plan to use to implement RAID10 on the server.  (There are only 4 drive bays.)

I'm just wondering:  If I put in four 3TB drives and configure RAID 10 and want to add larger capacity drives down the line, would I be able to just remove a drive and insert the new drive and allow the array to rebuild?

I've never been on the user end of this particular hardware...usually I'm building the stuff.

Thank you!

Hi meero,

For driver model EG0600FBDBU, HPD9 is the recommended version. That should not cause the drive to go into Predictive Failure.

Some of the reasons why the issue might be happening

1. Very old frmware on the array controller (I see 3.04 in the picture). If the controller is P220i, use firmware 8.32
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5295169&swItemId=MTX_dc0fa2598792465d8d5eaab1e2&swEnvOid=4184#

2. Excessive medium errors on the mirrorred pair drive (1I:1:2) which is getting copied to the new drive after installing and rebuilding

3. The drive bay or any of the connections points might have problem.
This includes a) Drive backplane b) SAS controller port c) System board

For points 2 and 3, we need to look at an ADU report.

Hello,

With regards the M.2 supportability Yes it is compatibile and the supported option part number are listed in the Ml110 Gen server Quickspecs.
To install M.2 it requires additional universal enablement card kit (878783-B21) and use S100i SATA controllernonly.

For more information on supported M.2 option part numbers refer the Server quickspecs.

Theoretically, writing "snmpwalk -v1 -c public IP" must show all available data. MIBS, OID and OIDstring aren't necessaries.

Hi

RAID 10 is usually used in small capacity hard drives. it can be used in you case but you will lose lot of space and money.

Best Solutions these days is to have for exemple 2 Mirrored Hard Drives + 1 Hot Spare for the Operating system and big capacity hard drives (at least 3) in a RAID 5

RAID 10 Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • RAID 10 is fast!  Since it uses both Striping and Mirroring, you get the best of both worlds and can get to your data quickly.
  • It’s robust and fault tolerant.  RAID 10 allows for 2 disk failures and the recovery time is fast.

Cons:

  • RAID 10 uses half the space of the raw storage.  So for example, if you had 1TB of raw storage, a little less than 500GB would available as usable storage.
  • RAID 10 requires a minimum of 4 hard drives.  For some people, this can get a little pricey.

How to Add Extra HDD to an Existing HP DL 380 G9 Server

Dear All,

Greetings!!

We have an HP DL 380 G9 Server with 5 SAS 10K HDD on ADG 6 (01 HDD on HotSpare) with WIN2K16 Hyper-V Installed and 3 Business Critical VM's Running on them.

I need to add an additional 3 HDD  (SAS 10K) to the Server without disturbing the current status.  i.e. (Don't want to break Windows or RAID or Loose Data)

Can anyone point me in the right direction with involved steps.

Appreciate your Assistance Very much

Thank you

Cheers

Hi!

So problem is that, my iLO of HP Proliant DL380G9 noticed that some problems with HDD

Status  Degraded (Predictive failure) Serial Number 03GHYAZC Model EG0600JEHMA Media Type HDD Capacity 600 GB Location Port 2I Box 3 Bay 7 Firmware Version HPD5 Drive Configuration Configured Encryption Status Not Encrypted

HDD MODEL that installed is EG0600JEHMA

i bought another driver HPE MODEL: EG000600JWJNP

I tried to compare them - it's look like everything is the same, only firmware is different HPD5 and HPD1

Can someone tell me can i make a replacement with new drive?

Thank you in advance!

Drives always have product and spare part numbers.

Drives with same specs most of the times get the same numbers, even if these are different models.

Different models have different firmware.

How about the spare part numbers of your drives?

Does anyone have a definitive document from HPE of supported processors by the HP Proliant ML10 V2? Mine came with the i3-4150 and I'd like to upgrade it to a Xeon.

The best document I can find is this list but it lists the E3-1220v3 but a previous poster said they tried the 1220v3 but it did not work. https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04619142

I found a really good deal on a Xeon E3-1220 but its not the v3 version and like to find a definitive answer before buying a new processor.

Hello,

Good day,

Spares Replacment and Installation procedure is done at customer site by HPE trained onsite enginner.

refer page number 64 you can see the Bay numbering and Maximum supported drives:

thank you for the reply.

so spare part number of installed damaged drive i cannot see

spare part of new drive is 787646-001B

but also by this table https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04315770

looking by HPE Model Number i found that this is similar drives

for example:

EG000600JWJNP HPD1 J9F46A 787646-001 HPE MSA 600GB 12G SAS 10K SFF(2.5IN) DUAL PORT ENTERPRISE

EG0600JEHMA HPD5 J9F46A 787646-001 HPE MSA 600GB 12G SAS 10K SFF(2.5IN) DUAL PORT ENTERPRISE

as you can see difference only in firmware.

but drives are different outwardly -  drive EG0600JEHMA that installed and damaged  has led indicators on front panel (drive behavior etc)

drive that i bought, doesn't have such kind of led indicators, only two small ones

so i confused little bit.

your assistance kindly required and will be appreciated

thank you in advance

Thanks for the reply!

I've been weighing 5 vs 10 and decided on 10 as, since I plan on running rather large drives and only have 4 bays to work with, I don't mind taking the hit on space.  Because they're just normal (aka "slow") 7200RPM spinners, I want the speed increase 10 affords, even if it's at the cost of space.

According to raid-calculator.com, if I run four 6TB drives in 5, I get 18TB of space with a bit of a boost to read speed, but nothing to write speed while going with 10 gets me only 12TB of space but I get a boost to both read and write.  4x and 2x, respectively.

This wasn't really my question, though.  I am wondering how the actual controller would act if I have the array built, then swap out a drive for a bigger one.  I think it will just rebuild the array on the bigger drive and carry on, but I'm wanting to verify.  I will probably only have three 3TB drives to start with so I want to ensure adding larger drives will be as easy as I'm expecting it to be.

GPU, 10GB NIC and NVMe SSD in ProLiant DL360P Gen8?

$

I only have 4 bays in my server, so I was planning on sticking a PCIe NVMe SSD in one of the PCI slots. to use as a boot drive and for storage of media items that I'm working on before being moved off to the main storage.

The other slot I was going to use for a 10GB fiber NIC.

As far as I know, these things only have 2 PCI slots.

Well...I would really like to put a GPU in this thing to speed up video rendering.

Can you guys think of a way to get all this working?

Thanks!!

ACU Spare Management | Remove Used/Missing Spare

$

Hello,

We recenlty removed a spare from Bay 8 and installed it into Bay 5 to replace a failed HDD. I would like to know how to remove/clear the error shown in the attached screenshot. The ACU is very lacking in information that reveals what task(s) will actually be executed. In the screenshot. I am in Spare Management scren under Configuration with the removed HDD checked. Will selecting SAVE simply remove the Spare no longer present in this Bay?

This is a Mission Critical Production server so we must be sure of the action that will take place next.

Thank you!

VSMBACU
