I greatly prefer using virtual media for my DL builds. Plenty quick on my local 1Gb network, I can get everything done without having to run between my desk and the build room (other than the actual physical assembly), no discs to get damaged, and I can do this on any DL anywhere as long as I can access the iLO (slower pipes and larger boot volumes might be less fun, but that's not a fault of the feature).

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 Box 1 Drive Indicators Don't Light Up
I know about the non-RAID disks not being lit as I have built lots of these. This is with a working array using all 12 drives.
They are not in an expansion device - they are part of "Box 1" that makes up the remaining 4 disks on the 12LFF chassis as opposed to the 8LFF one.
Thanks for replying though. I'm definitely open to any ideas I haven't tried yet, and that advisory is interesting, I'll try to keep it in mind as we are adding enclosures along with 408e-p SmartArray controllers that are going in after I update all the firmware, so it may come up.
Re: Adapter PCIe for M.2 discs. ML110 G9
this Adapter PCIe for M.2(nvme protocol) discs. canbe used in HP ML110 G9
I'm using it, perfect
only support UEFI booting ,because I can‘t download new BIOS package,
if your can, please send for me!!! qq98518@hotmail.com
Re: Adapter PCIe for M.2 discs. ML110 G9
Hi, thanks for answering. Some time ago I added one that was originally from HP, but the general fan was speeding up and was always at 20%, when it is at 7% as usual. So I returned the product.
Re: All HDD's in 2nd logical drive on 812 raid controll blinking fast in unison?
So today they stopped the regular fast blink pattern and are just solid on except when there is a lot of HDD activity then they blink, but now just staying solid on, so wierd, does anyone have an idea why? And more importantly how I could get both bays to behave the same?
Re: DL380 Gen10 won't boot after installing P408e-p
I also have a customer with a somewhat similar sounding issue. Involves DL560 Gen10 with P816 and P408e. Can't succesfully image the drives until the P408e is removed. If I get a solution, I'll come back and update this post...
Re: All HDD's in 2nd logical drive on 812 raid controll blinking fast in unison?
Sounds like this is what you have seen
Video card not detected
Hello.
I installed the RX 580 graphics card on the ProLiant DL560 gen8 server in a pci-e riser. But the video card is not detected in Windows Server 2016. Also connected power cable 10pin -> 8pin
Even coolers do not spin and do not jerk when the server starts
I heard that this server does not support all cards, maybe another BIOS firmware is needed?
Please advise what could be the problem?
Re: can not install ubuntu on DL380 G8
What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? If you've already reset the BIOS settings to default and created a clean array (always try this first if installing on baremetal), you might try a version older or a version newer and see if that helps. Bugs make it out on releases from time to time that may get fixed before the following release but until the developers can see it, they can't fix it, and even a large outfit like Canonical can't test every hardware configuration.
Re: All HDD's in 2nd logical drive on 812 raid controll blinking fast in unison?
Hi,
Please see the image below for the HDD LED indication and pattern.
Importatntly, the HDD LEDs in either bays behaviour is controlled by IOPS.
Re: Best Practice for array configuration
Hi,
As per the best practice, it is recommended to have the OS and data on different arrays.
Hence recommending the second option to be implemented.

Proliant DL 380 G8 V2 LFF - SATA Hot Swap HDD Caddy stucks
Hello,
I wish you all a nice day.
I have a problem on one of my Proliant DL 380 G8 V2 LFF: One of the caddies (including HDD) stucks about 4 cm from the end. It's on the bottom of the second raw. It's possible to move only a few millimeters back and forth.
Within the Server manual of the DL 380 G8 V2 I can't find a description if is possible to remove the complete bay of all 12 slots, so that I can work from behind.
Do anybody knows what can I do to remove the HDD?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Proliant DL 380 G8 V2 LFF - SATA Hot Swap HDD Caddy stucks
The Hard Drive cage can be removed from the server. Then the Backplane board can be removed to push the drive out of the Bay from rear side of the cage.
We request to be very cautious while performing this action or you can seek an expert to get this done.
Please refer to the below link for removal & replacement procedure
Thank you
Re: Create a new RAID 1 with existing hard drive without losing data
Per HPE Smart Array P204i-b Controller Overview, the controller supports Migrate RAID/Stripe Size, A RAID migration allows you to convert a RAID-Ready system into a RAID 0, 1, 5, or 10 configuration, or from a RAID 0, 1, or 10 volume to a RAID 5 volume.
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00020050en_us
For more information on RAID migration, please refer HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c03909334
IMPORTANT: An array expansion, logical drive extension, or logical drive migration takes about 15 minutes per gigabyte. While this process is occurring, no other expansion, extension, or migration can occur simultaneously on the same controller. Controllers that do not support battery-backed write cache do not support this process. As a best practice always take data backup before performing RAID migration.
Steps to migrate RAID 0 to RAIDX (where X is RAID level)
1. Access HPE Smart Storage Administrator.
2. In HPE Smart Storage Administrator, Select the controller, the Logical Devices on the left, the “Logical Drive 1” from “Array A” and then “Migrate RAID/Strip Size”
3.. The below image show what options you have – RAID 5 could be migrated to RAID 0 and RAID 5 Level
Re: Create a new RAID 1 with existing hard drive without losing data
The problem is obviously, the data is on a non-RAID drive (HBA mode).
Hence the suggestion to clone to a RAID0 drive, then migrate RAID 0 to RAID 1.
Write endurance on RAID 1 with two different size SSD
I have a RAID 1 with 2 120Gb SSD on a DL360 G9. One of the SSD have to be replace because it is complaining “SSD is approaching the maximum usage limit for writes (wear out) and should be replaced immediately”. I have a 200Gb SSD that will replace the old 120Gb SSD. I want to ask if the write endurance will increase on the 200Gb HDD considering that it will use only 120Gb of the capacity.
DL360 G6 SAS Backplane firmware update failure: Read NVRAM - NVRAM_Data Failed Error Code is 82
I have a DL360 G6 with 2 SAS backplanes for 8 drives.
on updating a mixed firmware (1.14, and 1.16) to 1.18 the firmware update for the upper backplane failed via SPP (hp-firmware-smartarray-pic24k20-1.18-5.1.i386.rpm added manually as instructed).
I get:

Anybody knows how I can make the firmware update succeed? Currently the drives on this backplane don't show up in iLO. The SSA still shows the HDDs which are connected to the backplane, and it seems I can still create an array.
should I try lower firmware, or 1.18D? Are there different backplanes which are, or are not compatible with the available firmware updates?

ML350 Gen9 P440 Expansion - Connection instrucrtions
Hello
I've been dealing long time ago with server cabling, installing new cages etc... but this time i'm kind of stuck.
I've added a Drive Expander Cage to one of our ML350 Gen9. Everything works fine. I still have an error saying the cache module failed. I came to conclusion (maybe wrong) that the battery of the controler wasn't connected.
The firt P440 work perfectly fine. The second one shows this. I've got a cable that seems to be connected to the battery but somehow i can't find information on that. the part is 784658-001. Do i have to order another 96W smart storage battery and install it ? or one is enough for the whole setup ? if yes, where do i plug this cable or how do i connect the new p440ar to the existing battery.
Thanks a lot for your help ! have a nice day and week end

New smart array controller dl 160 gen10
hi everyone,
I have a doubt, I bought a dl 160 gen10 server with 4 1.2TB sas disks and 3 240gb SSD disks. my problem is that the controller that comes inside is the S100i that only recognizes sata disk. my question is: can i buy a new controller 869079-B21 -HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR G10 LH Ctrlr + 866448-B21 -HPE DL160 / 120 Gen10 8SFF SAS Cbl Kit and configure one array for ssd disks and another for sas?
thanks,
