Hi Everyone,

One of our iLO 4 ProLiant DL360 Gen9 states iLO Health Degraded
Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 NAND read failure: Media is in a WRITE-PROTECTED state

Running ILO version 2.72 Oct 20 2019 and firmware P89 v2.76 10/21/2019

I have tried to format the flash using the iLO GUI (then disconnect all power, bring back online, flash again) but it still brings up the same error.

Any ideas most appreciated. I'm afraid it might be a new motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I hope you are doing good.

You need to follow (c04996097 & a00019495en_us) if the issue is not fixed end result is to replace the board as per the CA.

Hi kira12

I never saw this message while observing the complete booting process.
Anyway, I got the solution from another forum. I had to boot to System Utilities, then one time boot and there chose "Run a UEFI application from a file system". Then I was able to chose the bootloader and boot from the disk. Obviously this only works if the OS is installed via UEFI.

Thanks for your help and BR!

Hi ,

Actually, I didn't. Since, being a relatively old server, we did not have an HPE support contract, the only option they offered us was to send it for service repair. They would not even provide a firmware update for us to download. We therefore decided the repair price was not worth it for such and old machine, so it is out of order. We have kept it in storage though, in case we can use any spare part in the future for a twin server we own which is still online.

I am sorry I cannot help you any further.

MIB / OID for Proliant ML350 gen 9

hi,

I'm looking for the correct MIB file and OID's to monitor the hard drives, the power supply etc.

Where can I find the correct file for this server? I have downloaded the MIB package, but there are many mib files in there.
What is a good tool to read MIB files?
Can you read MIB files on the server itself?

thanks!

That is correct. When you "Disable Legacy USB" Nothing on USB works during POST, including your USB Keyboard (and there is no PS/2 ports.) So you have to HARD RESET your BIOS to get back into it with a USB Keyboard.

Thanks,

So how can I access HP Smart Storage Array Administrator from bios (HPSSA)

It detects no logical drives.

This Proliant DL360 GEN8 has to be secure wiped (DBAN) prior to going back to HPE!

I had to boot via the SPP and use an interactive session to access HP Array Configurator which I have created two logical RAID 0 drives in readiness for 35 x DBAN secure wipe.

Hello,

You are correct,

DBAN does not break down RAID arrays so the first thing is to create a RAID 0 array for each drive in the system.

On power-up wait for RAID array, prompt and press F8 enter the RAID setup. Delete any RAID arrays currently on the system. Press "Create RAID". Deselect all drives except for one and press Enter, then F8.

Repeat the process for each of the remaining drives.

If it doesn't work, you have to replace the system board.

Hello,

Just want to let you know of a much simlper solution.  Simply login to iLO and select "Cold Boot".

That will do the trick, no need for any more trouble.  This is always needed after firmware flash, it's on the documentation.

Regards.

Fans in ML150 G6

Dear all,

I have ML150 G6 with non-HP fans installed. I would like to:

1) Change threshods for fan. Current thresholds in Bios do not correspond to actual rpm and therefore I got events in impi.

2) Change fan rotation speed. Cutrent temperature is 24, cpu temp is 30, hdd temp is 29-35, but fans are ratation at 70-80% pwm. I would like to decrease this level to 30-40% and increase only in case tempratures arises.

Thanks for advices!

I upgraded the firmware and Intelligent Provisioning

Some issues are resolved, such as it will now see the ISOs on the thumb drives, but no matter what approach I take, it still sits at 0% on installing forever.

Is there any way to capture the logs so I can see what the underlying issue is?

Another note; My RAID-1 OS configuration activity lights are almost always off during this, every now and then one or the other will blink; but my data array is constantly spinning.

Is this indicating for some reason it's attempting to install on that data array? I've specifically instructed it to install on the RAID-1 array and when I go through intelligent provisioning it indicates that's where it's installing. All the problems seem to begin after that point.

Re: HP Proliant DL580 Gen8 and GPU's

The HPE Proliant DL580 G8 is an enterprise product, as such is meant to only be compatible with enterprise grade GPUs. I can personally say that the Tesla M80 works on the DL580 G7. I have 2x Tesla M80's with the IO expander on the true x16 double wide slots with 4x E7-4870 and 512GB RAM. The Tesla P100 works great on the DL580 Gen8, I have 3x Tesla P100's with 4x E7-4890V2 and 768GB RAM. The server runs smoothly in the data room at my office, I had to install 2x large window air conditioners along with central air to keep the room under 24ºC, but I have 9 months uptime right now. I have the machine virtualized with VMware and I use PCIe passthrough to Ubuntu 18.04 VMs for TensorFlow containers with CUDA compute.

You are correct that GTX cards are not compatible, but it is for good reason. There are multiple layers of redundancy and CRC error checking on Tesla and Quadro products. Gaming products do not have these features. In order to keep a stable enterprise server, it must have enterprise grade peripherals. There is no wonder that an HP Enterprise product crashes when you install consumer grade GPUs. Yes, HP locks out the cards by PCIe vendor and product ID, but that is insurance for the warranties they provide. If you burn up your server because of some over clocked, hot running, consumer GPUs, that should be your responsibility, but instead of putting that burden on the owners, they lockout everything they know to not be compatible.

DL380p Gen8 | ILO Health Degraded & Display is turning black soon after OS starts to boot

Team,

I'm facing the problem mentioned in the below url's. To start with, one day i noticed my server has stopped responding to mstsc but reachable via ping and C$ share is accessible. When I checked in Data Centre, I found that Display is not coming on KVM screen. I hard booted the server many times but no luck. Every time I used to see the Initial Boot Screen for HP Server, then actual HP logo with options to choose from F9, F10, F11 etc and finally windows used to start loading with the activity wheel running under Microsoft Logo for a while and then disappear to black screen. I connected an external monitor to front VGA port and later tried with back port too but the same results.

Since ILO was not configured, I configured ILO hoping to work from my desk and also see the errors in IML log. I noticed that my firmware version was very old (1.xx) so I immediately downloaded the latest SPP for DL380 Gen8 and tried to update firmware. Everytime ILO kept disconnecting with session time-out error. I somehow managed to create a USB and luckily after many attempts it installed the updated firmware. ALso, 1 hard drive from Raid 1 (2 drive mirror) was failed and I replaced the drive.

I manually downloaded ILO firmware and updated separately to make sure I'm running the latest for the server. I then noticed in my ILO page about ILO health is degraded and further navigating lead to the articles below.

I followed the articles and formatted the embedded flash/sd card and unplugged the server from power source and later plugged it in back. I noticed that the error used to disappear and again appear after 30 seconds. I tried two more time but same result.

Having described the problem, my queries are:
1. Since it is ILO embedded flas/sd card, can we disable the ILO completely for now and proceed with OS boot.

2. What could be the issue with OS booting? Is it the display or vga or OS itself?

3. The articles are telling about motherboard replacement, is that correct?

Thanks in advance

Khan
