Greetings!

Thank you for the update.

There are no logs to check what exactly happens during the installation.

OS would be installed on the logical drive that you select during the installation. The RAID-1 OS configuration activity lights are off because there may be no activity/OS installation happening.

Please following the below steps in sequence and let us know the result.

1. Remove the USB thumb drive, mount the OS ISO image from iLO and try installing the OS. If iLO is not configured, you can configure iLo by following "Setting up iLO" on the weblink below.

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c03334051

2. Please try installing the OS directly from the OS media (without Intelligent provisioning).

3. If issue persists, please use a different copy of ISO and re-attempt steps 1 and 2

Re: HP Proliant DL580 Gen8 and GPU's

Just discovered this thread due to reply floating it to the top. Interesting topic!

I'm impressed that people have installed multiple 2070 and better cards in their servers. At full power these cards can consume over 225W and create enough heat to warm a home. Installing three of these cards will easily take up over 650W of power! Add to that 2 x 130W power house CPUs, ~10W per hard drive, and who knows how much the motherboard and memory require ...

650W + 260W + 10W * 8 drives + 75W (??)  motherboard = 1090W

Holy smokes!! (literally) You're going to need HPE's beefiest power supply which I think is 1200W / each, I think? Remember, assume that one supply can fail putting the whole burden on the remaining supply.

Gamers plan their builds around the GPU and CPU and use online tools that add up component power consumption. I'm sure there's got to be one for HPE's servers

Side note : a humble Quadro P4000 card in comparison uses only 100W at full power.

I recenty installed a GeForce 1080 card into my ML350p Gen8 without any hitches or glitches. I also have 2 x 130W CPUs, a slew of little SFF hard drives, and enough memory to last me a few centuries. A good stress test is running SETI@Home or another distributed computing project with BOINC That will fire up all your GPU and CPU cores. The server has 2 x 750W supplies and they run fairly warm with the server at full throttle. I have been thinking of adding two more supplies to ease the burden on the first two.

I haven't heard of HPE locking out unsupported GPU cards but maybe that only applies to more newer servers or specific models?

1716 post errors on Raid 10 array on DL380 Gen 8

Morning all.

I have a server that has recentlly had 2 similtaneous disk failures ona raid 10 configuration.

Disks have ben replaced and rebuilt without any issue but now we are having these post errors and I have seen that there is HPE advisory saying that this could be a firmware bug on the disks.

I am planing on upgrading the firmware and running offline hardware diagnostics.

How do I check via Esxcli if this is Zero memory raid configured as it has a 2GB cache module on the array controller

Thanks You for the help

Hi all, now I had rebuild all and uses 5 brand new 2 TB SATA HDD (Seagate Barracuda 3,5"" - ATAST 2000DM008-2FR1  FW:0001) to build another RAID and a 6. HDD as a spare HDD.

But another HDD type gets also problems. Within building the index the RAID goes wrong during 12 hours. One drive goes to signal=red and the logical drives damages.

The first logical drive RAID 1 contains 2 SAS HDD and this drive will not be damage. Only the SATA drives has problems over problems.

What's the problem with this Smartarray Controler 420i? Within a model DL380 G7 and Smartarray 420 I never had such problems.

No joke, this has been absolute hell.

Mine just sits at 0% on the install screen for eternity.

I feel like I've done that a boatload and it just spins forever.

I will try again and post back.

In the meantime, where can I get usable update files for the 420i and iLO Arrays? The only ones I find on the HPE site are .exe and are not accepted when I upload them via iLO Firmware page.

DL380p Gen8 will have P420 controller, and the drivers should be included in the OS media.

However if required, you can download the driver from web-link below:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_90b6d3b309174d6f86065034ff&swEnvOid=4231

Please extract the .exe file and either mount the contents via iLO virtual folder or copy the extracted contents in a FAt 32 formatted thumb drive.

Another suggestion I missed to mention that, you can delete and re-create the arrays before trying to re-attemp the installation.

Ok, let me try to do further updating.

But I have cleared arrays and rebuilt them and still no go.

The issue definitely seems to be with some underlying scripting process.

It takes forever for one, but also, it just sits at 0% installing forever.

I've watched the entire PXE script run, and I don't see any speicifd errors.

Re: Fans in ML150 G6

Hello,

I hope all is well.

There are different reasons for high fan speed.

1) Update BIOS, it is the one who controls the Fans
2) If there is no air baffle and it is supposed to be one on the server, the airflow is not going to be as is supposed to be
3) Look if all the fans are running
4) check if you have all the fans
5) PCI cards can cause this because they could obstruct the airflow
6) Too many DIMMs and CPUs (Remember that the CPUs and the DIMMs elevate the internal temperature of the server, so the Fans will be running at more speed)
7) The temperature of the server room

Workaround: In the Bios > Advanced > IPMI we have the Blow-Out feature option which docs say just forces the fan to run at max speed during POST. It was enabled which is the default. Set it to disabled

Go into the BIOS at boot POST time, you must press [ F10 ] then go into the [Advanced] column menu, then go into the IPMI submenu.

[Main]->[+Advanced+]->[+IPMI+]

There is an option called the [Blow-Out feature].

Hello,

I hope all is well.

Please follow the below steps to fix the issue.

  1. Update the Bios with the latest 2.32
  2. Update the SPS firmware & Innovation Engine (IE ) firmware with the latest.
  3. Update the iLO5 firmware. ( however no fix related to the reported issue)
  4. Set the Workload profile to ‘High-Performance Compute’ and monitor the server.

b)If the issue persists, Set the Workload profile to ‘Virtualization – Max Performance’ and monitor the server.

OR

Set workload profiles as High-Performance Compute (HPC) in RBSU. Please refer below screenshot.

Re: DL380p Gen8 | ILO Health Degraded & Display is turning black soon after OS starts to boot

Hi Khan,

As per customer advisory it may be the issue with NAND chip which is embedded on system board and if you already checked by formatting the NAND then only option left is system board replacement.

However before that  please login to ILO and confirm are you getting any below error message on iLO Diagnostic tab

"Embedded media manager failed initialization"

or

"The AHS file system mount failed with (No such device)

or

"The AHS file system mount failed with (I/O error)"

or

"Controller firmware revision 2.09.00 Could not partition embedded media device."

or

Unable to download Active health System (AHS) report.

If any one of the above issue displays in iLO web console then need to check with system board replacement.

Thanks for your reply. I will certainly take a look at the logs.

Just to brief you, this Server is out of warranty and now we don't want to renew warranty and get the board replaced. I just want to get this fixed.

Is there a proper way of disabling ILO? I read somewhere that by going through F8 that option is available. If so, what harm would it do if i disable ILO?

Why is system not booting and entering a kind of loop? The display goes black once it starts to display MIcrosoft OS Logo. I don't mind disabling F10 also. I just want the system to boot with or without these error getting noticed. what is the best way.

Firmware to 2018 release.

Still no change on 0% OS install from Virtual Media or USB ISO.

DL360 / DL380 Gen10 SNMP MIB file or OID documentation

Hello

I want to setup SNMP monitoring and alerting via an RMM software package and looking for a MIB file or OID documents for the Proliant 360/380 Gen10 servers. Ran snmpwalk against a server and extracted a list of available OID's now need to know what OID's relate to what hardware and the values returned to create the alerts via the RMM agent.

Appreciate and pointers to any documetation.

Kevin

Not sure if my experience would add anything here...

I created my array using the ROM based tools available during POST. The interface is a throwback to the 1980's but works.

After configuring the array I rebooted my system and the Windows setup program found my drive just fine. I installed from a bootable DVD-DL disc made from an ISO image downloaded from Microsoft.

However ...

Being a Gen8 server it doesn't seem to support UEFI and I could not get Windows to recognize capaciity above 2TB in my first logical drive. So, in a RAID 0 of 4x600GB I lose 400GB. Kicking down to 3x600GB is fine though. The subsequent logical drives have no problems going beyond 2TB.

My Gen8 has the P420i controller and I installed Server 2019. I know 2019 is not officially supported or even condoned by HPE but I decided to try it on a whim knowing that if it bonked out for whatever reason then I will move down to 2016. Both evaluation versions are freely available from Microsoft. So far I have not had any problems with 2019 and am happy with how the system runs.

Greetings!

Please let me know if you had the chance to test with below steps as mentioned earlier.

1. Please try installing the OS directly from the OS media (without Intelligent provisioning).

2. If issue persists, please use a different copy of ISO and re-attempt steps 1 and 2.

Is the BIOS on the server above release 2015.07.01?

I logged into ILO & under Diagnostics page I see the below info,

Self Test.....Embedded Flash or SD Card
Status.....Yellow triangle, Warning Symbol, like degraded
Notes....Controller Firmware Revision 2.10.00 Embedded Media Initialization failed due to media write-verify test failure.
WIll this ILO problem cause system to not boot into OS or bring the display to black screen.

hpssacli and ilo

Hello dear community,

Something very strange that I experienced on 3 of my ProLiant BL460c Gen8.
When I check raid status through hpssacli command in OS, I get following result

# hpssacli ctrl all show status

Smart Array P220i in Slot 0 (Embedded)
Controller Status: OK
Cache Status: Temporarily Disabled
Battery/Capacitor Status: Recharging

When I check through ilo, it tells me all ok [green] as you see below:

pic.PNG

Question is, which one shall I trust ilo or hpssacli ? I would say ilo, makes more sense.
I think battery status did flap at some point and generate this situation.
Is there a magic hpssacli option that will force resfresh its status ? I've tried already a rescan already but no changes.
Most probably a server power-cylce will fix this, but was looking for an "online" fix if there is one...
