Re: HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen9 Server & Matrox G200eH screen resolution problem

Thank you so much for the idea. This is a bit complicated, as no monitor connected to the server at this moment. We access it with ILO and Zoho Assist / Teamviewer (also have RDP connection from the internal network, but due to a special installation process the third-party application access had to be granted) A software is running on the server and that needs the full HD resolution.

Is there any way to force Windows to use different monitor driver instead of the generic pnp driver? (it supports only 32 bit color depth and I guess the Matrox supports full HD resolution in 16 bit only)

Will try to connect a monitor later today and test it with that (due to the location, it is a bit tricky)

Hi,

May be the SPP version you have used is not supported, or it may not have the latest  firmware for these drive model .

Which SPP version you have used ?

I believe you need to use SPP 2017.04,  or earlier versions with G6 server,  SPP2016.10

For VMware version use following (individual update), Please refer installation instruction.

Greetings!

Please ensure the following points.

1. There should not be any space before/after the OID as this can cause this error.

2. Please check your Integrated Management Logs in iLO. Events in there don't auto-resolve, so if there were any left in the logs from a previous event it will cause the OID to pull a warning or error state. Please clear the Integrated Management logs and check the results.

Hello,

I hope all is well.

I think you are using the P816i-a controller not  i816a. If yes, follow the below documents for more clarification.

Hi,

thanks for your reply, I know these documents. I'm refering to https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2129050

  • If the vSAN disks are in pass-through/JBOD mode, the non-vSAN disks mustalsobe in pass-through/JBOD mode

We are not using vSAN, we are using Ceph. and I know that p816i-a controller supports mixed mode. But I don't know the impact of mixed mode, using 2 disks in RAID 1 for OS and remaining Ceph disks in HBA mode.  What are the drawbacks? If this configuration is not supported for vSAN, I can imagine that it might affect Ceph too.

I hope all is well.

The servers running on very old BIOS and the firmware’s set and latest having several fixes and enhancement to apply for fixing the known issues and efficient troubleshooting.

We never recommend to update with the latest SPP, If the server running old firmware.

I would request you update the server bios as per the below sequence.

Hi Kerry, I have had similar problems on a variety of different DL360s, eventually worked out that the HTML5 console seems to be the issue. If you use the Java console it works fine as normal, also noticably slower loading the SPP before it dies when using the HTML5 option. I'm seeing this with iLO version 2.70, will be interesting to see if it is fixed in 2.73.

DL380 G7 + Smart Array P822 capacitor recharging issue

$

I added a refurbished Smart Array P822 controller (with 2GB FBWC cache) to a DL380 G7 server. I'm getting the following error in IML.

POST Error: 1798-Slot X Drive Array - Array Accelerator Self-Test Error Occurred - Array Accelerator is disabled

Using the ACU I see that the cache module is permanantly disabled and capacitor 1 is recharging. I was getting that message for 48 hours. Noticing some visible damage to the capacitor's cable, I ordered a new one from HPE. After installling that I checked the ACU and the same issue persisted. I checked again after 24 hours to no avail. Finally I checked the LEDs on the cache module (LED3: on, LED2 and LED 1 off) and according to this troubleshooting doc the cache module is idle and the capacitor is charged. Also the heartbeat LED on the controller is flashing once a second.

The ADU report for the array, with the new capacitor installed.

Here is the correct document link is for drive model VK003840JWSST, which fails at 32,768 power-on hours:

HPE SAS Solid State Drives - Critical Firmware Upgrade Required for Certain HPE SAS Solid State Drive Models to Prevent Drive Failure at 32,768 Hours of Operation

It's possible the SSD firmware update applied successfully, but a reboot is needed to activate the firmware, which happens in some situations. If that is the case, iLO won't report the updated firmware until after the reboot. However,  if the firmware update was successful, Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) will report the firmware as HPD8 prior to the reboot. Check with SSA and let us know what it reports.

It looks like I'll need to install the SSA first. I tried doing so on the mgmt VM we run but apparently virtualized environments are not supported for the app, so I'll look to finding a physical and installing on that.

Will report back when completed and can verify, thanks.

After looking into it a bit further, it looks like a reboot is needed after the SSD firmware update in order for both SSA and iLO  to report the updated firmware version. Interested in knowing whether a reboot has occurred.

Hello,

I have a server DL380 G9, the raid controller P440ar reported a critical error so I have bought a new P400ar card. What do I need to prepare when I replace the new card without losing raid partitions.

Thank for reading!
