Thanks so much for your reply and suggestions, however, after attempting to follow up on HP Smart Array SAS License Key and requirement to support SAS drive the stopping point was login information.  The login page will not accept the credentials I have for this forum. Can I get access and or can the resource for licensing HP drive authentication be provided in a different manner.   Enclosed is the challenge page(s) I am receiving.

To explore your input concerning the hard drives, enclosed is an image of the current hard drives which, are all HP confirmed.  Also the caddies that are accompanying also seems to be a legitimate working design and caddy model.  that being stated, the original HP ProLiant Server came with two 500GB Hard drives 7200rpm SAS.  The drives that were added after this are 1TB 72000rpm SAS which are deemed as compatible and at the time before completely blowing away the server and starting from "Bare Metal" approach is when the issue on drive recognition developed.

Enclosed is the HP drives for inspection and suggestion on how to get past and or get the Smart Array to see and provide a pathway to create volumes and load the OS.

Also enclosed is another error when attempting to run Intelligent Provisioning.

Thanks for your continued support!Intelligent Provision Error.PNG

Hi

It is a Genuine HPE component, I use drive 875490-B21.

Is it maybe required to have the dedicated ILO port installed? I use the M.2 directly attached to the Mainboard, not having this ilo board in between.

Yes, the dedicated iLO port is required, that's what gives you a usable m.2 slot. What's on the motherboard isn't made to plug an SSD into.

ML310e Gen8 v2 not able to hot swap power supplies

I have a ML310e Gen8 v2 server with the redundant backplane and 2 x 460w power supplies installed (part no 643931-001).

I have noticed that redundancy upon unplugging the cord or loss of AC supply works as expected, but I notice that if I disconnect and remove a power supply by pressing the tab and removing it from the server, upon re-inserting it and re-connecting the AC, the green LED stays off.

After a while, iLO reports the system health as "OK" and both power supplies "Redundant", but the LED on the PSU remains dark.  In reality, the redundancy is not there and removing the other PSU causes the server to fail.

I would have expected the re-inserted PSU to power up with a green LED and redundancy to begin functioning as before.  Additionally, if I then disconnect the AC from the re-inserted power supply, iLO still reports system health as OK!  It seems it gets 'confused' when the PSU is hot-plugged.

I note that the manual requests you power down the server before inserting a power supply, but this seems to conflict with the "hot swap" capability.  Do these servers only provide redundancy for power loss, and are not hot swap, or do I have a problem?

BIOS is P78 04/04/2019,  iLO firmware is 2.73 Feb 11 2020,  and the Power Management Controller Firmware is version 3.1

Thanks.

Thank you.

This is strange, the service manual states that a M.2 can be installed in this slot directly, and also has specific mounting positions. If this is true, the manual is WRONG there.

However, I am going to try again with the dedicated ILO port installed.

I checked the SmartStorage Administrator, the drive shows Temperature 33 deg. C. so technically all works fine and there is no reason for the high fan speed, thoug!

I do see what you're seeing in the service manual, which doesn't match the rules in quickspecs, but I think I've identified the main issue. That slot is for an NVME M.2 drive, and you're using a SATA M.2 SSD. The only supported SSD in that slot or the iLO kit is 875583-B21 which is NVME. In order to use your SATA M.2, you'll need to add HPE Universal SATA HH M.2 Kit (878783-B21) which occupies a PCIe slot.

Dear,

Please check below replies.
Again, please note that this issue is happening around once every one or two months without apparent reason; and to solve it I need to power down completely (and remove power and network cables) and power again.

1. Thermal Configuration is set to Optimal Cooling from server BIOS/RBSU.

Yes, it is set to Optimal cooling

2. HPE Innovation Engine Firmware version is above 0.1.6.1

Innovation Engine (IE) Firmware Firmware Version 0.2.1.2

3. Please ensure System ROM and iLO is running on latest revision.

System ROM: U30 v2.22 (11/13/2019)

ILO: 2.10 Oct 20 2019

4. Check and Disable “Intel Turbo Boost Technology” also Disable Processor Jitter Control in RBSU

Processor Jitter: Disabeled
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology: I dont have this option in --> System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > Power and Performance Options

5. Verify that all air baffles and required blanks, such as drive blanks, processor heatsink blanks, power supply blanks, etc., are installed. to ensure proper air flow within server.

All OK

6. Please set the Workload profile to "High Performance Compute" /"Virtualization - Max Performance" in BIOS and monitor the server.
Actually it is General Power Efficient Compute

7. There is no abnormal hardware failure event/temperature event reported in Integrated Management Log.

Log is clean.

8. Please ensure there are no 3rd party components installed in the server. eg. HDDs, PCIe cards etc.

I Have HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 ver 2.02
with 3 SSD Disks on RAID 5 configuration.
The Disks are:
ADATA SU800 (Firmware Version R0918B)

Greetings!

Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology option could be missing because the processor doesn't support it (You can verify from Intel page)

Workload profile can be changed to "High Performance Compute" (non visualised environment)/"Virtualization - Max Performance (For visualised environment)

Also I can see 3rd party drives (ADATA SU800 (Firmware Version R0918B)) installed and this might be the cause of the issue. The HPE drives have HPE firmware embedded on them so that they work best with the HP Smartarray controllers.

Since the issue is intermittent, please monitor the server and if the issue re-occurs please collect Active system health logs from iLO before cold booting the server so that the issue can be investigated further.

Greetings!

Please be informed that if the SAS license is not installed, SAS drive will not be detected at all. However here I understand that the drives are detected but you get HP drive authentication messages.

You can verify from Array Configuration Utility or Smart Storage Administrator if all the drives are detected and how many drives have the authentication error. You should be able to check if SAS license is installed or not. For testing purpose please install one or 2 drives and verify.

Please check the link below to verify "Maximum Internal Storage" to ensure we are not exceeding the recommended configuration.

https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04128167.pdf

If Array Configuration Utility or Smart Storage Administrator shows SAS license installed but the drives are still not detected, please check the cabling from the controller to the HDD backplane.

If drive authentication error is not seen on all the drives but few drives, please swap the drives around to check if the error follows the drive or remains on the slot.

For the intelligent provisioning error please re-install IP from below web-link.

Hi. Started the server with the Switch 6 ON, but there was no difference. The server turned on, up to 20 % the VGA signal is lost.

On the motherboard are 3 leds on: 1 ambar near RAM slot, 1 green near the FAN1 slot and 1 gren near the FUSB2.

I should add, the system is running VMware ESXi 7.0.

I appreciate this is not a supported configuration - I am merely looking for advice or input.  Surely the capability to "hot" replace power supplies should work?

Thanks

Hi ,
please find below Suggestions .

1.  Please Make sure that the Server is Keep in a Proper Server Room (should not be kept in enclosed area ) , server should  have proper air flow.
2. HPE would recommend you to use HPE parts only , to get better performance.
please refere to Page 33 , for Compatible HPE hard Drives: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04128239
3. Please make sure that server Firmware are updated .

If you would need any further assistance , we would request you to Log a Support ticket , so we can check Hardware logs as well .

Thank you

Hi,

I understand your concern here, but we wouldnt be able to comment on the Operating System and its supports since it may depend on various factors.

However after installing 7.0 if there are any issues, we would be unable to assist since there would be no Drivers available and there might be dependencies issues.

Thank you,

Proliant ML110 Gen10 Controller and Video Issues

$

I have a Proliant ML 110 Gen10 server that I am using as a Terminal Server with Windows 2012 R2. It has a single Intel Xeon Bronze 3104 1.7 Ghz CPU, a 1TB 3 drive RAID 5 array made from 3 500GB SSD drives and the controller is a HPE Smart Array S100i SR.  The server is used primarily for about 10 to 20 users for general purpose use and to run a couple of specialized app that are also located on this server. The server has worked flawlessly until The Covid-19 lockdown started. We now have anywhere from 25 to 40 users on the server at any given time. Since that time the server has been a problem. The main issues are slowness and freez ups. I also get two warnings that come up in the system logs that I believe are the reason for the lockups.

1.) The first warning is Event ID 129 the Source is SmartDQa and the issue is  "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued." This can happen 10 to 30 times an hour and I beleive this is the reason for the server freezing. If goes back to normal after 10-20 seconds, but then it always happens again a few minutes later. I did find that SmartDQa.sys is the driver for the S100i controller, but not sure why it continues to reset. I suppose it's possible that the controller just can't handle the load. But I was hoping that there may be a setting that can at least stop the resets from happening until everyone goes back to work and the server can go back to normal use.

Is it possible that this driver may be corrupt and replacing it with a fresh copy could help?

2.) The second warning is Event ID 4101 The source is Display and the details are "Display driver BasicRender stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I have not witnessed this problem except for one time. It looks like the display just flickers for a second and then goes back to normal.

I can live with the display issue, but is this also something that could be caused by too many users? Or a corrupt driver? I updated the driver by installing the latest driver from the HPE website, but it still continues.

Any help on this would be appriciated. All of the users are getting pretty upset at this time. I have emailed all staff members and asked them to use as few apps as possible and logout each time they are done using a session to help lighten the load on the server. But I still see a ton of tabs open in chrome and a lot of memory, CPU and hard drive activity.

Thanks Everyone!

Hi,

If you have a hotswap power supply then yes Power supply hotswap should work without any issue and redundancy should be restored when you plug in the power cable into it.

"LED on the PSU remains dark."  this is unusual.

Not sure but could be an issue with Power supply or Power backplane.

Please ensure that three cables from the redundant power supply backplane to the system board are connected properly,

Refer user guide (page no: 63)

Hope this helps!
