Re: ;Re: 207 Memory Initialization Error

Hello,

I can confirm that so far every similar issue I had on 380G6/g7 has been related to the processor socket.

But think more broadly, when "bent pin" is mentioned.

I just (30 minutes ago) had the case that when upgrading CPUs on a DL380 G6 from X5570 to X5670 I got faulty dim socket reports on A,D and G of Proc 1. I was worried that the processor was busted and switched them, but it still was on Proc 1 side.

Then I took a strong light and a magnifying glass and found that two tiny (I'd guess <= 0.3mm) pieces of fluff had lodged onto two of the pins.  (Sorry, not a sterile environment here).

Apparently that was enough to either make or block an electrical connection in a way that was not intended. I blew the socket out with air (Giotto Rocket Blower), reseated the CPU. Now memory is fine and the server is currently looping through memory tests without any error or problem.

regards

martin

Re: ProLiant DL380 G7 - Can't detect new SAS drives

Hi,

Thanks for your reply - makes sense about the Gen8 as it was a bit tight but they did go in (albeit I was a bit tentative haha!!!).

I've unplugged and swapped drives many many times and each time I've gone into the RAID controller (where you create logical volumes etc) the only drives it detects are the exisiting drives. When I put in a 5th drive (SATA SSD) then this was displayed as being available etc but 3 and 4 (the new SAS) are not. Attached is a diagnostic report generated by the HP diagnostic tool with the 4xSAS installed.

Your shout on the firmware for the RAID controller is a good call though, as I think it is something to do with the controller not picking up SAS. I read that the controller for a SATA can be local to the disk, which might explain why the SATA are picked up but the SAS are not....what do you think? I'll see where I can get a firmware update for the P410i.

P.S. I'm not the most experienced when it comes to data control systems so forgive me if I get some terminologies a bit wrong! Cheers.

Shared Storage between 3 DL580 G7's

I have three of these monsters but want to setup a virtual enviroment with HA.  I'm aware of the software answers but I don't want to go that route so here are couple newb questions.

I'm going to need Shared storage so I'm considering upgrading the native P410 controlers to aHP Smart Array P812/1G cards.

Question one: Properly Implemented can I create a shared array of 12 disks (4 per system)?

Question two:  Is this cabling correct so I don't need a switch and have full redudnancy?

Server1 > Server2 & Server3

Server2 > Server1 & Server3

Server3 > Server2 & Server1

Question three:  Any thing I'm missing?  Trying to build this solution not only as a platform but a proof of concept for a bigger implementation with FC, Blades, and all the real fun stuff.

The disks in slots 3 and 4 are for Gen8, not for G7 servers!

Say wuuuuuuuut! Haha FML, we've had these disks lying in a drawer for a year so I don't know who bought them or what they were intended for - our Gen8 has 15K disks so I assumed the 10K's were for the Gen7!! HP support didnt bring this up when I gave them the HDD part number etc so I have been bumbling around for 2 days with this! Are the drives definitely Gen specific and not (-/+)1 gen compatible?

Thanks again!

SPP SUM local firmware repository

We build alot of ProLiant systems continually and need to implement some kind of nightly batch process to ensure we always have the newest ProLiant firmware to push out from our PXE server.

How do I use the SUM utility at the Linux command line to update my local firmware repository in the /hp/swpackages directory?

Hello!

We have 2 memory module  1G 1Rx4 PC2 - 5300P - 555 - 12 - H2  in 1 and  2 slots. With It installed server works well.

Now I try to add 2 more modules   2Gb 2Rx8 PC2 - 5300U - 555 - 12 - E3 in 3 an 4 slots. And server doesn't start . It makes beeps only.

I tried to install only 2x2Gb modules  in 1,2 slots. It has no result.

What wrong? why doesn't is work?

hi,

It seems that drives 6 and 7 are non hp labeled. Can you please check that and if yes, remove these drives and check, if you can manage a spare. Please try only with hp labeled drives.

Thanks

Does DL180 g5 support only ECC memory?

hi,

It's because of non hp dimms, but that's just an assumption.

Thanks

Does  the HP lock servers to their own memory only? =(

increase disk space in a raid 5 array on a ProLiant ML350 G6

Hi,

Our server (ProLiant ML350 G6) has a raid 5 array with 4 disks of 300Gb. We are getting short on disk space.

Can I replace the disks one by one with a type of 600GB? Or what is the procedure to fix this?

Thanks for your answers. Ben.

My dealer told me that HP labelled drives of this type are no longer available, so I had to purchase 3rd-party drives to replace the failed ones.

If that's the problem, then so be it.

Another way HP disappoints, I guess...

Wish I could find this somewhere in their documentation:   be nice to be able to show the client...

Thanks for your assistance.

for workaround this problem you should  mount SPP ISO in ISO manager program and go to "system" folder ,open isolinux.cfg and add edd=off option after each nox2apic option and save it then you should regenerate ISO file with new isolinux.cfg file and boot server with the new ISO.

this workaround tested with SPP 2014-09
