You should be able to get the product number (and serial #) from the ILO main status page.

Indeed.  ILO is the place to look.  Thanks.  Unfortunately, for this particular client, there was only a single network drop and so no ILO.  Looks like I'm making a trip.

If the system is running Linux run

dmidecode -t 1

This will display serial number and SKU Number. SKU number is the Product ID

If your running windows open a command prompt and run

wmic bios get serial number

and

wmic /namespace:\\root\wmi path MS_SystemInformation get SystemSKU

HP Smart Array p410i Failed HD Issue

Having a problem with a failed drive in a server I have at a remote site. Here is what I have so far. We have a server with 16 HD bays in it, in those bays we have 2 146GB 10K sas drives configured in a Raid 1 setup as a Logical Drive (ARRAY A), we have 14 500GB 7200K drives setup in a Raid 5 config as Logical Drive B (Array B). A few weeks ago we started having a error that we had a drive that has failed. At this remote site we have a low level tech who attempted to diagnose the issue he was having and once of his methods was to reboot the server (I know, not a good idea with a degraded array). The server started back up with the Array B being in Interim Recovery Mode. We ordered a new replacement drive (same part # as the failed drive) and sent it to the site. Gave instructions to tech to, while powered up, pull the bad drive and replace it with the new drive. In my expierence, the rebuidl process should have began immediatley. This did not happen. When I get into the server and look into the ACU GUI this is what I see.

Smart ARRAY p410i in Embedded Slot

     Unassigned Drives (1)

500GB Sata Drive at Port 5C Box 2 Bay 8 (This is the replacement drive) in same slot as old failed drive

     SAS Array A - 1 Logical Drives

          Logical Drive 1 (136.7 GBm RAID 1)

     SATA Array B - 1 Logical Drive

(Interim Recovery) Logical Drive 2 (5.9 TB, Raid 5)

What is weird though is that when I look at the Physical View it is still showing the New Drive in PORT 5C:2:8

But it is also showing the old failed drive for that Array in Question at BOX 1: BAY 0

This location does not even exist. It almost looks like to me that the Controller is not realixing that old failed drive is missing.

I have scoured the fourms and google and have not found any help, this is my last resort before wiping the array out and restoring the data on that array from a backup.

Re: ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 is noisy

Hi

I just bought and  HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 v2 with the Bios P78 and the fans were very noisy, the first reason is because I change the SATA AHCI config because Im not going to use the Hp hard drives cause we installed SSD's .

I read that the noise is becuase the sata controller has to be configured to HP Dynamic Smart Array.

So i check the Power cooling and set it to Optimal Cooling and the fans works a little slower, still bit loud but better, and I notice that i the power settings are set to balance/power the CPU doesn´t goes to the slowest speed, and its the same problem with the microserver.

hope this helps

Latest BIOS is 2014.03.28; ILO is version 2.00.

Make sure you are using the latest drivers too and check if this makes a difference.

Hi,

Found this software in Linux section of Gen8 Proliant's drivers.  No equivalent for Windows.  What is the purpose of it ?

You can use WMI class win32_product to list the installed applikations from windows  programs and feature list.

Here is an example of a one line powershell command that will show if the online cunfiguration utility is installed and what version. If it's not the command will not show any output.

Get-WmiObject win32_product | select-object Name,Version | where-object {$_.Name -match "HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility"}

ProLiant DL380 G7 - Can't detect new SAS drives

$

Hi,

We've had this HP server for ~3 years, wanted to add another 2xHDD (SAS) to go with the existing 2xHDD (SAS) for a total of 4xHDD (SAS).  The new drives are not being detected by the system at all, be it Windows, BIOS, RAID Controller, or 'SmartStart' and I'm running out of ideas.

I have tested the new SAS drives in a different workstation (Dell Precision) and they appear with no problems, I have also tested a 3rd SSD (SATA) in the server and this appears with no problems.

I have then tested the SAS drives in another Proliant we have (DL380p Gen 8) but this presents the same issue i.e. The new SAS are not detected.

So, its leading me to think its either a common flaw/fault with either these particular servers (or with their current configuration), or that I am missing something here. Any ideas? I'm also in touch with HP support directly so will update accordingly if I hear anything.

Thanks!

The Gen8 server is using different drives and frames, so expect they will not work in the Gen8.

But according to the link they should work fine in the G7.

How about a test:

Power down the server, pull both existing disks, insert the new disks, power up and go into the array config (F8).

Can you see the drives there?

Is the firmware of the array controller current?
