Re: Proliant ML150 G5 - Understanding raid configuration.

Hi,

I read your comments but I don´t undertand very well.

I have the same problem:

I had 2 disk in RAID 1 and then I added another one and configured this like single disk but after rebooting I check that the disk is non-configured.

Please, can you help me?

Thanks and best regards

Do you think this is a valid config? No LP DIMM, only Standard RDIMM @ 1600 MHz:

Channel 0: 2x(16GB DR, 16GB DR, 4GB SR)

Channel 1: 2x(16GB DR, 0GB, 4GB SR)

Channel 2: 2x(16GB DR, 16GB DR, 4GB SR)

Channel 3: 2x(16GB DR, 0GB, 4GB SR)

The online mem config is not up-to-date (is not aware of the new STD RDIMM @1600 MHZ) and is not working correctly for this server.

BIOS versus UEFI: are you using 1982 software?

This is more in the Linux vein, but could apply to Windows I would think.  This is not an ongoing problem as we are returning these Gen8 servers for Gen9, so this is more of a rant and hopefully a warning to others.
You could be using software from 1982 without knowing it. That's right, in the firmware of most PC hardware.
We recently developed a replication and rollout process for our linux workstations (desktop and rack servers) which worked for Lenovo P300 but failed mysteriously for the "HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 v2 Server". The error involved a GPT (versus the MBR that was created for us on the HP server). You can look up these terms on the internet, but I can tell you briefly that the "Master Boot Record" technology dates from the early 80s and is implemented by BIOS firmware, while "GUID Partition Table" is more modern and associated with the newer UEFI firmware standard. Actually, there are even later firmware standards which are open-source.
We just obtained Lenovo P310 that has both but defaults to BIOS. The HP only had BIOS. Not sure how hard they would be to flash, but we sent them back for Gen 9 servers. One limitation of BIOS is a 2T max hard drive, there are kludge workarounds to this as with most limits.
It was almost funny: investigating, I went into the BIOS. Then I called over a few people to try and guess what I had on the screen: TRS-80, Commodore-65, IBM-XT and so forth from the older guys. The young guys were miffed. So am I. Why would a computer company sell this garbage?

HP is selling servers with (U)EFI for more than 15 years now ... I can't see the 'killer' feature in GPT - who needs boot partitions lager than 2 TB?

ML350 G4 running on 1 processor

Hi,

I have a problem with ML350 G4.

Exactly, I have two of them - one with 2 processors, and second with one processor (it has 2 slots of course). First server is working properly, but the second not. I have an error 805 - Unsupported processor. NVRAM was reseted - the same.  Battery was also disconnected - that not helped also.

Do you know, that there is a opportunity to run this computer on one processor ?  If I should upgrade the BIOS, can you give me the download link for it.

I will be grateful for quick response.

do I need to mention what type of sas configuration has?

is it posible to clone the current sas drive to a bigger sas drive?

The Japanese link is no longer viable - can you share a link that works in 2016, in English, on how to use Ivy Bridge on an HP ML110 G7?

Most BIOS updates require a valid warranty or service contract. An exception to the rule is for updates that havae a safety or security fix is 2013.07.02 (A)(14 Aug 2013) look at the revision history from the link you provided

The 2TB limit is for a boot drive. I have several 25 drive DL380 Gen8 systems with 19TB of storage configured in one lun and Linux has no issue accessing it. Required no kludge workaround to make it work.

Did you add the controller in slot1?  Did you also change the cable from the drive backplane that normally goes to the embedded controller?  The PCIe H240 controller requires a different cable from the backplane to the controller as the one that ships connected to the B140i is not long enough.

I did this and everything was fine.

Re: Adding 2 Nvidia Tesla K40 to Proliant DL380 G9 Server

Thanks for your answer Jimmy!

I already read it, it says i need:

"The Primary GPU riser (719076-B21) is required to support this in slot1"

and

"The secondary GPU riser (719073-B21) is required to support this in slot2 (2nd processor required)."

But, can I install two Tesla k40 in the first (primary riser) or have to install both risers (primary and secondary) and install one GPU per riser?

Thanks again!

ML350EG8 V2 morning freeze

Hi, i have a server ML350EG8 V2 with installed operating system windows server 2012 updated with the last HP proliant service packs and all updated drivers, that sometimes in the morning it seems freezed, so not accessible from the network and can just move the mouse on grey background, if press ctrl + alt + del nothing happens.

I make a brutal reboot by the power button, it comes back to work, also for some days, but after one week the problem comes again..........

all the logs seems with no errors, and the diagnostic give no errors back.

What can i try to do?

Wish I had more to offer, I haven't had an opportunity to install GPU's in the DL line. You may look in the maintenance and service guide, it may show some more detail

DL380 G7 - P410i - Harddisk not recognized

Hi

DL360 G7 with P410i RAID-Controller.

On the "left side" I have two Harddisks SAS 146GB (PN: 507283-001) installed and configured as Logical Drive 1, which is running fine.

On the "right side" I have added four SAS 1.2TB (PN: 718292) Harddisks.
No LED is showing up, looks as it has no power connected. I'm also not able to eject the harddisks anymore.

Any idea?

Best regards
Rotart
