Hi Guys,

Can anyone help, I have a bl460 g8 installed with Red Hat Linux 6.4 . In it I also install hp sum and hpssacli and etc. Somehow or rather when I try to run hpssacli from command line it takes 8 - 9 mins to go to a command prompt . Than I try to run command ctrl all show config , it also takes 7 - 8 mins to show the configuration. The smart array p220i is only connected to the local hardisk 2 x raid 1 . Why is it having such a slow performance., can some one advice.

I have tested with hp sum GUI array diagnostic , it also takes 7-8 mins to show the controller.

I do further testing with intelligent provisioning , it also take a long time to load the configuration.

Kindly advice??

Regards

Vincent

No, from the SmartStart CD you can't acces the RBSU settings. You don't need any cd to access these as they are accessible from the systemboard itself.

I doubt that this information is available yet. I work for a HP partner and am yet to receive this info. :-/

It's probably still under wraps. Back in the Compaq days, you could go to one of their conferences and sign an NDA to get a peek at the new servers, and the NDA would only be lifted once they made a formal announcement, and that's probably the case here. Anyone who knows anything about it probably can't share it with you until HP announces.

Although drive temps aren't part of the equation used by the system to change fan speeds, there are sensors in and around the drive bays.

If you're worried about the drives themselves running too hot, my suggestion would be to go directly to the drive manufacturer (Seagate or whomever) and check their tech specs. I have a feeling that 45C is probably within their normal operating temps.

Like I mentioned desktop drives generally run cooler because a SATA drive at 7200 RPM just won't be as hot as a SAS drive at 15K RPM.

This URL is a link to some of Seagate's latest enterprise drives, and you can see the operating temp is listed as 55C:
http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/enterprise-performance-15k-hdd/#specs

Those aren't quite the drives you're probably talking about, but it gives you an idea of what Seagate enterprise drives consider normal.

This helped me solve my problem. I'm using

- HP ML310Gen8

- Windows Server 2012 x64

Just install all the files, even if the installer tells you that you have a newer version installed or the current version is the same as the one being installed. Thanks alclark1!

Failed hard drive in a RAID 5 setup

We had 1 of our hard drives in our RAID 5 start receiving a Predictive Failure warning via HP's System Management Homepage. The Spare Part Number on the Hard drive is 454274-001 which I ordered. The company we ordered from sent us Part Number 516810-002 which is a 6G version of the one we currently have. I already know I need to upgrade the firmware on it as all of our other drives are using HPD6 and it came with HPD3. Outside of that will I run into any issues using the 516810-002 drive?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Ryan

Ok, figured it out. Was using a flash drive for the driver and the flash drive must have been corrupted. Reformatted the flash drive and reloaded and extracted the driver. Worked like a charm.

ML110 G5 fans

After a bios update of my proliant ML110 G5 server, the fans started to run on 100% and i can't get it back on smart controlled running. The nois of the fans makes me grazy and unable to work in my small office anymore.

HP didn't had a solution for this problem, they said; sommetimes this will happen after a bios update. You can trie to resett the bios. I've tried but it didn't work.

Anyone a solution that will work so that the fans will work silent again?

Can someone please tell me where to locate the product number?

Hi all-

I am attempting to register the warranty on my client's ML310e Gen 8 V2 server.  This is now required for download of Proliant Service Packs.  I am able to readily find the serial number in multiple locations.  However, I am not able to locate the product number.  I need to be able to accomplish this remotely as I will not be physically at the server in quite some time.

Please advise.

As mentioned, the drive should work as long as it's the same size and speed. Sometimes HP would send out a dual-port model to replace a failed single port, and once they sent us a 15K drive to replace a 10K (thanks HP!).

Don't worry about the firmware until you check. The new one might say HPD3 but that might already be the latest one for that particular model. You'll have to check the drive model # once you've installed it and then see what the latest firmware is for it (it will vary based on which particular drive HP put in the carrier... they pull from different sources to keep their supply chain rolling).

Did you have a look behind the front cover?
Not 100% sure, but many ML... systems have the sticker there.

ILO and RBSU should show it too.

The old smartstart firmware DVD?

Better use the current SPP 2014.06 or pull the components for BIOS, ILO, etc from web.

Hi,

Can you try the following troubleshooting to isolate the issue?

1. Switch OFF the server and remove the hard drives.

2. Switch ON the server and try IP and see if there is still delay.

3. You may also try to remove the Cache module/Battery and test.

Here we are isolating some components which are attached to the controller, to see if they are causing the delay in getting the configuration.

Thank You!

Hi,

Have you connected the iLO cable to the iLO port?
